St. Patrick's Day in Dublin

March 17, 2014
Happy Birthday T!

We decided that on St. Patrick's Day we were going to go into town to see the parade. The parade started at noon so we left the house around 10am. The bus brought us to Mt. Joy Square and we had to walk the rest of the way. The buses were all on different routes because of the parade going down the main streets in Dublin. The children had picked out their outfits the night before.
Happy St Patricks Day
T thought it was so cool that this was actually his second time celebrating his birthday in Ireland. He had his 2nd birthday in Ireland in 2007.

We found a place where we had a decent view of the parade but not the best. I was amazed how many people were already in town. It was packed and everything and everyone was GREEN! We waited about an hour in our spot until the parade started. L asked to go home right before the parade started (ohh no)! Once the parade started though she was fine.
View on O'Connell St Bridge

I found all the Americans in Ireland...they were at the parade. Its amazing how much Americans stick out...they (we) are so loud!

St. Patrick started the parade
Then there was an orange mini, white mini....
...and a green mini.

People climbed statues to get a good view

Many people wearing flags
They had a little carnival area on the quay so we headed down there to check it out. They had a bunch of rides but that was all. I told the children they could each pick one ride. They were so expensive!
L wanted to go on the motorcycle
K and T wanted to go on the very high swings

I had seen these one-piece outfits in the store a month ago.  I was wondering who wears these? Are you kidding me? I can't tell you how many people we saw in these outfits on St. Patrick's Day! Hilarious! Maybe they are on sale now and I can pick one up for Joe for next year!
Shortly after this we headed back to catch the bus home. They had already cleared all the barricades from the streets and the buses were back on schedule. After dinner T opened up his cards that he had received in the mail for his birthday and he had a few little gifts to open.

T had a great birthday weekend and was looking forward to his week off of school for mid-term break. I am so loving the week breaks over here. Now we can start the count down until Easter break which is 2 weeks off of school!!

PS. Even the sheep go green on St. Patrick's Day!
