Sewage!
Today we woke up to a dreary dreary misty dark day! There was no taking any walks today. After lunch my Aunt M stopped by for a cuppa Irish tea. Thats what we do here drink tea all day long and offer tea to anyone who stops by the house. We were telling her how when one of the kids took a shower yesterday the water was seeping out of one of the drainage areas. Ireland's plumbing is done so differently then ours and NONE of the house drains are underground. There might be about 5-6 houses that share the main line and then that line drains into the city sewer. We lifted up the top of one of the house drains and it was full to the rim with sewage and then we lifted up the main one (which just happens to be in the back of our yard) and it was completely full of dark disgusting grimy sewage. My mother and my aunt started panicking because if its not taken care of right away it could back flow into your house. They knocked on a few of the houses that share this line to find out if anyone else was having issues because it would effect everyone. No one was home! I called the sewage drainage emergency number and they said they could come out in 20 minutes and would clear the drain for 85Euro. That sounded good to me. This young chap (what they call young men here) showed up and started doing to the dirty cleanup. When he drained the hole he said it was tree roots that was causing the blockage probably from the three large trees next to the drain and the other trees on the other side of the fence. The roots were growing thru the cracks in the concrete.

Here is a picture of the poor chap that had to get into this hole to saw out all the roots. You see that big pile of black junk on the left...thats the tree roots with toilet paper on it and everything else (you can use your imagination). He worked so hard in this hole for at least 30 minutes to make sure it was clean. Then we offered him a cuppa tea (because thats what we do here)..seriously even workers that come to your house..yes! We even gave him a few biscuits to go with his tea. This chap said he is really a carpenter by trade but loves doing this more. Are you kidding me? When he was leaving he gave us two cartons of strawberries. Apparently the last customer gave him strawberries but he said he does not eat them. It made L happy tho who eates strawberries non-stop!
That evening K, L, and I ran out to Tesco to just get a few of the basics we needed - milk, bread, yogurt, etc. Then we picked up the latest Hello magazine. I think I have K addicted to the royal family as much as I am!
Its almost midnight so I think I will retire for the night with my Hello magazine.
