Belfast - The Cathedral Quarter

We drove back into downtown Belfast to find someplace to eat dinner. We passed St. Anne's cathedral so we decided to stop. It was a nice cathedral but nothing special and not a lot of history. It was a Church of England (Ireland) cathedral.

Then we walked many streets up and down still trying to find someplace to eat. We asked a few people but really got nowhere, the place was closed, too expensive, etc. We found a few neat looking alleys that we walked down. I'm sure when the weather is nice these would be some fun streets at night.
Then I found The Cloth Ear restaurant. I had read about this in my handy dandy Rick Steve's Ireland book! Its my bible over here! It must be good if Rick recommends it! M went back to get Joe since we all split up to find a place to eat. I never did find out though why it was called The Cloth Ear. What a strange name for a bar/restaurant. We all had a decent meal and even our picky eater K found something to eat (after a lot of drama).

Afterwards we got back into our car and drove to our bed and breakfast which was located north of the city about 15 minutes in a small village called Carrickfergus.

We stayed at the Beechgrove Farm B&B. We all split into two rooms. In the morning we had a great Irish Fry - thats what they call your hot breakfast of eggs, sausage, ham, pancake potato, brown bread, etc. We talked to the owner of the b&b  - Mrs. Barron who must be between 75-80. She was a lovely lady who told us her husband died 4 years ago. She told us she did not want to stop running the b&b because she would be so lonely in the farmhouse by herself. She has family helping her run it and she really does enjoy it. When we finished our breakfast the young daughter around K's age (she must have been the daughter of one of the workers) took our three children out to the back to see the animals. Of course L who is obsessed with animals was over the moon. She got to pet the rabbits, see the ducks, pet a dog, etc. The girl is crazy!

Next we started our second day of our adventures in Northern Ireland…
