We've arrived in Bayeux!

We arrived at our next destination Bayeux (pronounced BAH-yueh). By this time it was dark, raining, and we were all starving.  Thank goodness the navigation system directed us right to our b&b. We checked in, Joe parked the car, and we brought in all our luggage. This was going to be our home for the next 2 nights. Now we had to find a place to eat. Our b&b and was just off the main square so we decided to just go for a little walk and see what we could find to eat.
Bayeux
Bayeux is a small city in the Normandie region. The town is actually famous for the Bayeux Tapestory, which is a embroidered clothing chronicling the Norman invasion of England in 1066 by William the Conqueror. The tapestry gets its name from the great cathedral where it was stored, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux. We did not get a chance to see the tapestry but that was ok with us.

Bayeux was also the first French town to be liberated in WWII. The British captured it without much of a fight the day after D-Day in 1944. Miraculously the town escaped destruction after the Allies confirmed it was not a German stronghold.

Bayeux was a perfect home base for our travels for the next day. It is a very quiet city and does not feel like a tourist town. It IS a tourist town, but most of the buildings, shops and restaurants feel more genuine than that.

We found a restaurant to eat a quick dinner and I ordered my beer with fraise (strawberry syrup). I had been craving one all day!
Yummy!!!
The children were soo excited to see a bathtub in our place they all wanted to take a bath. So….we filled the bathtub three times for each of them to take a bath! Our place was divided into two rooms - one had two twin beds and then our room had a king size bed. L wanted to sleep with T so they went to sleep in one bed and K went in the other. In the main hallway/reception area ( i think that is what you could call it) they had little tables and chairs set up where you could order drinks in the evening. We told K we were going to go out there and get a drink and if there was an emergency to come get us. We literally were just outside the door to our room.
Joe ordered a glass of wine and I had a hot chocolate. I was freezing as usual and needed to warm up! It was nice to hang out and talk to Joe while the others were sleeping and talking about our day in Lisieux. I think we said at least a dozen times…these kids better appreciate this trip 20 years from now! Lol!
