Little L is Sick

On Monday evening I noticed L was lying on the couch and did not want to eat dinner. I just thought she was not hungry since she had been snacking a lot that afternoon while the older two were doing homework. In the middle of the night she had a very high temperature and vomited. I gave her a little Tylenol to see if that would help reduce the temperature.

Tuesday morning she was still fairly hot, did not want to eat, and start screaming every time she had to urinate. I was not sure if she had a UTI because she also vomited, but when I looked up the symptoms of a UTI in toddlers it mentioned vomiting. She was on the couch or in my bed all day long. L did not want to eat anything but thank goodness she was still drinking.
L gave me a little smile for the camera
When K and T got home from school and finished their homework I took L to the urgent care which they call swift care in Ireland. I was a little nervous about going since this would be my first time dealing with healthcare in this country. I just told them I was paying out of pocket because I just have to submit the invoices to our insurance in the US to get reimbursed. Thank goodness we have good medical coverage in the US.
L just wanted to lie down
The doctor was very nice and was great with L. His name was actually Dr. Mohamed and he had an Irish accent. Interesting. After a few attempts to get a 3 year old to urinate in a cup it was a success! Diagnosis: UTI

I know exactly how she got the UTI. She was so excited to see bath tubs when we got to France we let her take a bunch of them and we probably left her in there too long. Now I feel so bad.
The prescription
I was a little nervous about the antibiotic they prescribed because I am not familiar with any of the drugs they use here in Ireland. I had to look up Monotrim to even find out about it. Then I had to find a pharmacy that was open. By now it is about 8pm and most places close down at 6pm. Luckily after a few phone calls I found one close to the house. A late night pharmacy!

Today L is doing much better. She had a cheese stick this morning and a few slices of green pepper this afternoon, and a little pasta for dinner but I will take it! She did not eat for 34 hours so something is better then nothing. Please pray she recovers quickly!! She really wants to go back to school tomorrow.

  2. I believe this drug is one of the drugs in bactrim, which is commonly used for UTIs here in the US. Sounds like you had an OK experience w/ Irish medical care!

Hugs and loves for our Lauren. Love you and missing you!
