Tayto Park

I took the children to Tayto Park one day. Tayto Park is located in Ashbourne, County Meath. Tayto is a major manufacturer of crisps (aka potato chips) and popcorn. It was founded by Joe "Spud" Murphy in the 1950's and he invented the first flavored potato chip. (I even verified this on the internet.) Ireland's most popular flavors are Cheese and Onion and Smokey Bacon. My children are addicted to these flavors too!

You can even buy a book about Mr. Tayto
A couple of years ago they opened a little theme park. It has a big playgroud, zoo section with animals, big zip wire, slides, and you can tour the factory. There was of course lots of crisp tasting! We brought my 2nd cousin's son - H (so he is actually my 3rd cousin). T and H are great buddies. It's amazing how they have not seen each other in 2 years and they just pick up where they left off.

L just wanted a tiny Mr. Tayto on her cheek
K did the Tayto sky walk. I could believe she wanted to do this. T and H wanted to do it too but they were not tall enough. When K finished she said it was so hard but so fun!

In her harness all ready to go!

We ate lunch inside these tents. They were filled with tables and chairs.

We went to mass that evening at St. Patrick's in Donabate. This church was built in 1903 to replace the old church that was from the early 1800's. I could not get a picture of the inside because it was full. That's a good thing! We all had a great day and L keeps asking to go back to "Tayto City!"
