A Very Cheezy Amusement Park called FUNtasia
I was roped by my Godmother to drive her out to Betaghstown (pronounced Bettystown) to this place called Funtasia. She just wanted to go to the casino and kept telling me that the children would have a blast since there was an amusement park and a beach. That was basically the sales pitch. But since she flew out with me from the US and has always been there for me I kinda had to do what she wanted. :-) Her family lives about 5 minutes from our house and she comes to Ireland at least once a year from Baltimore. Her and my mother grew up together in Ireland and then came to the US together to nanny for families when they were in their 20's. They never returned to live in Ireland except for my mother who moved back in 2001.
We picked my Godmother up in Ballymun and went about 25 minutes north to Betaghstown in Co. Meath. This was actually my first time driving here since I arrived. I've been putting off driving because once I get put on the car insurance here I have 30 days to get my Irish license. I'm just dreading the whole process because I have to take a driving test and they are soo strict here. They fail you for the smallest thing. Don't forget they also drive on the wrong side of the road here! Think LEFT! Think LEFT!
We arrived in Betaghstown after a nice drive with the children. When I saw the place or whatever you would call it...named FUNtasia I thought I was going to have a heart attack. It was so ghetto old and dirty looking. The place needed gallons and gallon of bleach poured all over it. The rides and games just looked grimy. Then Kathleen handed the children a bag full of euro coins for the rides and games. Oh my.... the children thought they were in Heaven. We did the rides and games for a few hours, ate lunch, walked to the beach, had ice cream, and did more rides and games. After that we drove home and the children's friends all came up to the house when they saw the car pulling up to ask if they could play. The three of them went to the park to play until bedtime. I just wanted to run inside and take a shower to disinfect my body. But honestly it was a good day and the children want to go back to FUNtasia for their birthdays. Are you kidding me?
